Sir Thomas More (Paul Scofield), England’s Roman Catholic Chancellor, is forced into a difficult position when corrupt King Henry VIII (Robert Shaw) demands his approval to divorce his wife and marry his mistress. Torn between his conscience and duty to the crown, Sir Thomas chooses to say nothing, sparking the rage of the king. What unfolds is a battle of wills packed with palace intrigue, political brinkmanship and the fate of man, church and country. In the end, his silence spoke loudest of all. (Eureka Entertainment)

One of those great historical films where there's a lot of talk, but not idle talk. The main conflict is thought-provoking even today, thanks to the perfectly honed dialogue that made it to the screen from the stage, and if you like The Lion in Winter, Beckett, or Mary, Queen of Scots, feel free. A very well-executed historical film in the sense that the era is superbly captured, but above all, the intrigues associated with the characters presented here are depicted excellently. Thomas More certainly had an interesting life and was born into a time that did not favor him. He wasn't exactly a man for all seasons, but then his fate wouldn't have been so interesting. Great cast! ()
