Plots(1)

Playing out in real time, Soft & Quiet is a runaway train that follows a single afternoon in the life of Emily, a female white supremacist and elementary school teacher. Emily organizes the inaugural club meeting of ‘Daughters for Aryan Unity’, and she indoctrinates a group of alt-right women. When they all decide to move the meeting to Emily’s house, they stop at the local store to pick up refreshments, where an altercation breaks out between two mixed-race Asian sisters and the club that spirals into a volatile chain of events. English The Daughters for Aryan Unity first hold an intimate conference at Wannsee with pastries and coffee in a thermos, only to later cross the red line and demonstrate that Soft & Quiet do not allow for the contents of these minds. Four filming attempts produced a disturbing story where frustration turns into despair, hatred into fear, and confident leadership into submissive surrender to screaming. The final seconds confirmed earlier hints, and I believe that in the correctional facility, the well-bred Colombian lady with John Leguizamo’s mustache is already preparing root vegetables. ()

English A fairly imaginative and suffocating directorial debut that initially feels like an intimate conversational drama, but at one point it swings a hundred and eighty degrees and by the finale feels like a completely different film. Racism, xenophobia, uppity nannies, home invasion, torture and much more, all in one film - the less I give away the better. In any case, I don’t think this mix works very well together, and although it's an uncomfortable and memorable experience, I'm not exactly sure what the film was trying to convey. ()

English A nasty film about nasty people. An intense but by no means enjoyable experience, in fact I can't remember the last time I had such an awful feeling about a film. I certainly don’t want to watch it again, ever. This real-time adventure with "decent people" is just too real, give me my demons, ghosts and werewolves. Anyway, many users will probably recognize themselves in this, heh. ()
