The hilarious and unapologetically explicit story of identity and self-discovery centres on four unlikely friends who embark on a once-in-a-lifetime international adventure. When Audrey’s (Ashley Park) business trip to Asia goes sideways, she enlists the aid of Lolo (Sherry Cola), her irreverent, childhood best friend who also happens to be a hot mess; Kat (Stephanie Hsu), her college friend turned Chinese soap star; and Deadeye (Sabrina Wu), Lolo’s eccentric cousin. Their no-holds-barred, epic experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging, and wild debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are. English Pros: an unexpectedly funny group of four Asian women, each of them being their own and funny, crazy one-liners and mega cringe scenes, so something for me, sometimes quite unexpected sequences and unconventional fun. Cons: classic story leading to a collision and final happy ending with literally zero innovation or subversion of the template, not a film for everyone, certainly nothing intellectual or groundbreaking. The result? A film that can be good or bad depending on the viewer, so I'm cautious with my recommendation, but I actually laughed quite a lot in places, despite the ordinary B-movie set-up within the film as a whole.
