Lona (Kim Novak) is the girlfriend of a bank robber suspected of murder, and detectives Sheridan (Fred MacMurray) and McAllister (Phil Carey) are assigned to stake out her apartment, where each becomes dangerously fixated - Sheridan with Lona, and McAllister on her neighbour, Ann (Dorothy Malone). Then Lona makes Sheridan an offer... to kill her lover and run away with her. With its themes of surveillance and obsession prefiguring Novak’s role in Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo, Pushover is a triumph of suspense, and an acknowledged influence on Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless.
