The Lucky Texan

Another western romance with John Wayne, who is just such a likable guy that you forgive these westerns where violence always gets resolved very quickly. The fights come off quite slapstick, which adds to the beauty of the film, at least from the perspective of so many years later. Jake doesn't have it easy. He's old and in debt. Young Jerry (the Duke), who's turning into a real man, helps him out a bit. He has to, because Jake is charged with a felony. It’s qualitatively similar to Born to the West, but I still found it more entertaining in places. (06/12/2013)
