Based on Thomas Hardy's classic novel, this British mini-series tells the story of a destitute girl, Tess Durbeyfield (Gemma Arterton), who claims she is one of the wealthy D'Urbevilles to get a slice of the family fortune. But Tess enters far deeper troubles when she finds herself at the mercy of one of the D'Urbervilles's malicious sons (Hans Matheson). A series of tragedies befall her, but at the bottom of her grief, a stranger (Eddie Redmayne) seems to offer a way out. Will she risk resurrecting the past to take it? (official distributor synopsis)
