The action takes place during a fictional series of the reality TV show, with stories unfolding both on camera in the 'house' and with the staff behind the scenes. When a zombie outbreak occurs the contestants are blissfully unaware inside their secure little bubble, a bubble which soon becomes a fortress when outsiders seek refuge from the walking undead. Inevitably, the infection spreads into the 'house', turning the popularity contest into a scene of carnage, with cast and crew uniting to escape the ultimate 'eviction'. I'm surprised how good it was. A quality zombie gore fest that has a decent pace, nice actors, decent gore, typical black British humor and a very unexpected ending. A series that flowed by like water. 80% ()
A reality show that strips its participants to the bone. Though it employs almost every cliché of zombie horror movies, Dead Set has a thrilling pace and a bleak atmosphere, and Andy Nyman enjoys playing his insufferable prick of a character as much as Ricky Gervais enjoys playing David Brent. I was disappointed by the modest number of episodes, but at the same time, I appreciate that the series is not artificially drawn out and ends when it’s still at its best. ()
Dead Set is a very good show about zombies, but some of the reviews lead me to expect a lot more carnage. In any case, watching this limited series is a joy, if only for the frequent and brilliant gore or the occasional funny dialogues. ()
