Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern Manhattan who combines his awe-inspiring magic powers with state-of-the-art technology to protect the city from the evil clutches of his powerful arch enemy, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Realising that he is going to need assistance if he is to succeed in taking Horvarth down, Balthazar recruits average college student Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel) as his unwilling protege.
