Preacher tells the story of Jesse Custer, a preacher in the small Texas town of Annville. Custer is accidentally possessed by the supernatural creature named Genesis in an incident which killed his entire congregation and flattened his church. Genesis, the product of the unauthorized, unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon, is an infant with no sense of individual will. However, as it is composed of both pure goodness and pure evil, it might have enough power to rival that of God Himself. (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment)

Season 1 (2016) (S01)

English Season 1 had a number of weak moments, but I quickly got over them and focused on enjoying the good ones, of which there were thankfully quite a few. The series mixes brutal gore with comedy bordering on farce, bringing in two underground angels, a friendly vampire who’s really into booze and opiates, a preacher with a dark past, and the inhabitants of a small town which I would really hate to find myself in. The season was only slightly above average in my view, but not completely underwhelming either. I'll definitely watch the next one. ()

Pilot (2016) (S01E01)

English I haven’t read the comic, so I went into the series with no big expectations. I enjoyed the pilot — it introduced some interesting characters and the local preacher’s rather depressing flock. There were a decent number of action scenes and even a touch of existential philosophy. I was a bit thrown off by the medieval armory on the private jet during Cassidy’s entrance, but hey, what do I know about private jet amenities? ()

See (2016) (S01E02)

English It’s odd — nothing much happens in the second episode (except for Cassidy's late-night snack), yet it still has a great atmosphere and kept me entertained. I’m not sure why the creators took us back to 1881 at the beginning, but I’m guessing we’ll get an explanation eventually. ()

The Possibilities (2016) (S01E03)

English The third episode is just as good as the first two, with Cassidy becoming even funnier. He adds a refreshing touch to the plot, which might drag a bit without him. I enjoyed watching Jesse explore his new abilities, but Tulip is starting to get on my nerves — her scenes feel repetitive, and it’s time to switch up her behavior a bit. ()

Monster Swamp (2016) (S01E04)

English The weakest episode so far. The story felt stagnant, and the scenes from Jesse's childhood didn’t interest me at all. Only Cassidy managed to keep things afloat. The whole episode seemed pointless since there was virtually no plot progression. I’m hoping the next episode picks up the pace. ()

South Will Rise Again (2016) (S01E05)

English The episode started with another trip back to 1881, and once again, I'm clueless about its relevance. No worries, I’m sure an explanation will come later. The story started to pick up again, with Cassidy and the agents keeping things entertaining. Jesse also began using his "gift," which made for some interesting moments. However, I was baffled by Tulip's character when she decided to rob a pharmacy. She's the only woman in Annville with her skin color, and her usual outfit is quite distinctive. Yet, all she needs to do is pull a mask over her head, and she’s perfectly disguised. WTF?! ()

Sundowner (2016) (S01E06)

English Episode six was the best and most entertaining so far. The opening scene at the Sundowner Motel was fantastic. Tulip didn’t keep repeating the same lines about leaving, Cassidy was his usual brilliant self, and Jesse edged closer to the dark side. For the first time, the story picked up the pace, and it made a huge difference. ()

He Gone (2016) (S01E07)

English The pace slowed down again, probably due to the flashbacks to Jesse’s childhood, which didn’t really grab my interest. As usual, Cassidy provided the best moments — he can save any scene. ()

El Valero (2016) (S01E08)

English The episode didn't move the plot forward much, but I had to give it an extra star for its humor, which bordered on farce at times. The attack on the church, combined with a family picnic, reminded me of the Battle of Manassas. The exorcism scene was pretty intense, and the ending hinted that Cassidy will be back next time, so overall, I’m pleased. ()

Finish the Song (2016) (S01E09)

English Finally, I got an explanation for the 1881 storyline, but the endless repeats were a bit annoying — I figured out the Sisyphus reference pretty quickly. Emily was hilarious during Cassidy's recovery, and I loved the bit about not being allowed to bring luggage on a trip to Hell. "What about my comics?" ()

Call and Response (2016) (S01E10)

English Episode ten wasn’t mind-blowing, but I enjoyed it. The teleconference with "God" was brilliant, and as someone from a mining region, I appreciated the ending of Annville. I was also glad to see Cassidy back and loved the wide-open ending. Looking forward to the next season! ()

Season 2 (2017) (S02)

English Season 2 started off great but gradually turned into an extremely boring affair. Despite the addition of Klaus Helmut Starr, an instant favorite of mine, there was unfortunately also Denis who was as essential to the story as a grain of rice in a Somali village. Don’t get me started about the Hitler caricature. And then there was also Eugene, whose story I didn’t give a flying flamingo about, so all his scenes (and there were quite a few) were just annoying filler. The second season was simply disappointing compared to the first one. ()

On the Road (2017) (S02E01)

English A solid start to season two. This is the first episode where Tulip didn't annoy me with her repetitive lines and actually became really entertaining. Cassidy, as always, is a guaranteed laugh whenever he's on screen. My sides hurt from laughing! ()

Mumbai Sky Tower (2017) (S02E02)

English I was originally going to give this episode four stars, but Fiora/Ganesh's repeated suicide attempts turning into a profitable business, along with Cassidy's unique way of dealing with depression, clearly deserve a fifth star. So here it is. ()

Damsels (2017) (S02E03)

English A pretty dull episode. I get that they need to set the stage for the rest of the story, and jazz fans might have loved it, but I found it pretty depressing. The opening with Eugene and the girl was amusing, especially considering she would have done more damage if she had shot her knee instead. The character in Hell, who could've resembled Hitler if played by someone else, was just a missed opportunity and felt pretty pathetic. ()

Viktor (2017) (S02E04)

English The weakest part of this episode is the attempt to convince us that the character looks like Hitler. It's just embarrassing. Unlike the previous episode, at least some action took place here, and I didn't have to endure any jazz sessions. I get that people like jazz, but it's not for me, and I'm glad it wasn't featured this time. ()

Sokosha (2017) (S02E06)

English A fun, action-packed ride that kept me engaged the whole time, unlike the previous episode. The ending hints that nothing is set in stone, so I won't be too surprised by future twists, but the soul-trading business was fantastic. ()

Pig (2017) (S02E07)

English This episode earns its four stars thanks to Klaus Helmut Starr. He’s both disgustingly slimy and incredibly entertaining. Combining these two traits, it’s clear he's going to be my new favorite character. ()

Dirty Little Secret (2017) (S02E10)

English The last episode kicked off with a first-person shooter scene, and this one started with Jesus's sex marathon. Keep it coming! I wish Cassidy had more screen time, but Klaus Helmut Starr's presence more than makes up for it. He’s endlessly entertaining. ()

Backdoors (2017) (S02E11)

English Almost as boring as episode eight,. The story barely progressed, even Cassidy wasn’t entertaining, and overall, I felt like someone waiting for a bus that's running late. And that terribly done Uncle Dolfi is really getting on my nerves. ()
