The NYPD is not a job for the feint-hearted. It’s a job for tough guys like Detective Highsmith (Samuel L. Jackson) and Detective Danson (Dwayne Johnson). They steal the show with their confidence, their style and they always get their man. On the other hand, the NYPD does have some guys not so like them; ‘The Other Guys’ are not like them whatsoever. Detectives Gamble (Will Ferrell) and Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) have a desk job at the office, they never rise to opportunity, and they are reluctant to do better in their jobs, that is, until they answer a call and are forced to step up their game in order to compete with Highsmith and Danson. As absurdly moronic as a flying peacock with a broken hip. At times it's as funny as few other things, but mostly rather as mediocre as anything. It's just a disposable piece of crap, but thanks to the closing credits it is one of the most socially engaged political appeals of the year, or what is Michael Moore doing?

I like Will Ferrell’s dry humor; I enjoy his Ron Burgundy character as well as his supporting roles in Frat Pack comedies (with Stiller, Vaughn, Ferrell, Wilson, Carell et al.). But this film is an example of a (hopefully only temporary) failure on the part of the screenwriter and director. Moreover, even the action scenes that do not require working with actors and the escalation of the dialogue scenes are terribly difficult to follow. The second star is only for Eva Mendes.

An incredibly intense and well-executed opening that was excellent and hinted that it could be great. But then things went wrong. Marky Mark doesn't act much, but his role just fits perfectly for me. I really couldn't stand Will Ferrell in this at all. And I usually quite like him. Otherwise, it’s a fairly standard police comedy that lacks the right drive and doesn't have characters as great as in something like Starsky and Hutch.

Incredibly cringeworthy, incredibly cool. Stupid wise-cracks that tickle your funny bone and, at the very least strange situations with solutions so illogical they take your breath away. The plot is essentially pointless, but you never stop having fun. And the opening with Danson and Highsmith is great. The finale is stolen from my own Grand Theft Auto escapades. Whoa, your hair's soft!

It’s really too bad that the considerable portion of brilliant jokes (the opening action, the fork on the table) is matched by a larger pile of fatal awkwardness (the partner etudes), which is mercilessly apparent during the two-hour runtime. Ironically, it's a parody in the style of The Naked Gun, where everything was handled with a ruthless stone face instead of theatrical goofiness. Honestly, though, I think if Ferrell and Wahlberg switched roles, it would have worked better.
