Glengarry Glen Ross

Plots(1)

Adapted from his Pulitzer Prize winning play, Glengarry Glen Ross shows David Mamet, at his searing, profane best. A group of Chicago real-estate salesmen-cum-con artists live on the edge... life is good for the one on a roll, for the rest, life hangs in the balance. There is no room for losers. A-B-C Always Be Closing, sell or go under, is the salesman's mantra. With the pressure on, so begins a rainy night of cut-throat business and shattered lives. Al Pacino plays the fast talking Ricky Roma, alongside a phenomenal performance by Jack Lemmon as the veteran Shelly "The Machine" Levene, struggling to keep his neck above water. With a star studded ensemble cast featuring Kevin Spacey, Alec Baldwin, Ed Harris and Alan Arkin. (ITV DVD)

English An actor gala that suffers due to the minimal space given to the central seven and lackluster direction with no visual ideas or a more distinctive narrative. Watching it on the creaking boards, I’m drooling with bliss. I give it a weaker four stars. ()

English The combination of the excellent duo of Al Pacino/Kevin Spacey in one movie was for me tantamount to an unattainable dream. When I accidentally stumbled across Glengarry Glen Ross, my enthusiasm knew no bounds. It is an unparalleled concert of acting performances, where both actors deliver exhaustive performances alongside other unforgettable names like Jack Lemmon and Ed Harris. I adore tense situations on the screen, and when the story's thread never goes in an direction you don't want, I can only float in bliss. ()

English A great dialog-driven drama dominated outright by Al Pacino. And the lesson? People are swines and when they are in hot water they’ll do anything to make somebody else go under instead of them. - What's your name? - Fuck you! That's my name! You know why, mister? You drove a Hyundai to get here. I drove an eighty-thousand dollar BMW. THAT'S my name. And your name is you're wanting. ()

English I didn't like this film much. While I appreciate the great performances and the brilliant dialogues, I just can't forget that I fell asleep about four times. It was probably due to general fatigue and the film is not at all to blame, but I don't have the strength to watch it a second time. ()

English The film is absolutely incredible in terms of acting. There are so many names here that you can't even believe they all gathered in one place, and furthermore, they all got enough space. Alec Baldwin had the least amount of it but still used it perfectly. Surprisingly, it wasn't so much the story that got me, but really the cast. ()
