When his mother dies, 14-year-old Yannis must often look after himself while his father is away at work. One day he discovers and rescues a baby pelican, whom he names Nicostratos, and decides to bring him up in secret. But it's no easy task to hide such a large and fantastic bird on such a tiny Greek island and it doesn't take long before Nicostratos is the talk of the village. Soon tourists start flocking to the island to see the bird, bringing much needed business. Can the pelican not only help the island, but also heal the rift between father and son?
