Drama based on the 2010 San José Mine accident in Chile. 33 men are working in the unstable San José Mine when it collapses, trapping the miners inside with no means of escape and very little food. Mario (Antonio Banderas) takes charge of the situation and does his best to ensure the safety of his colleagues, splitting the food into rations and diffusing any tension. With the miners' families arriving on the scene and demanding action be taken to save their loved ones, the government sets up a rescue operation, but it will be over two months before any of the men make it to the surface again. Will they all survive the ordeal? (Warner Home Video)

English I actually remember hearing about the Chilean miners' story when it happened, so it was only a matter of time before Hollywood jumped on it. Sure enough, it’s turned into a heartfelt, uplifting movie with a happy ending. And to be fair, they did a solid job with it. Antonio Banderas brings some star power, and I appreciate how they stuck close to the real events. Definitely worth the watch if you’re into survival stories with a dash of Hollywood drama. ()

English I expected it to be a bit more sentimental, which it ultimately wasn't, but on the other hand, the emotions I anticipated weren't there either. What I liked was the acting of some pretty big names who let themselves be rather overshadowed by the rescue mission itself. They didn't want to stand out, and I liked that a lot about their performances. ()
