Earth has now become the most valued and precious resource of all, controlled by the corrupt Gaia Coalition which governs the human race across the different galaxies. Having been exiled and vilified during the battle of the Homecoming War, Captain Harlock and his trusted crew of the Arcadia battle cruiser are the only hope mankind has of discovering the secrets that the Gaia have kept hidden. The Coalition has demanded Harlock's death and the Gaia Fleet's new leader, Ezra, calls on his younger brother, Logan, to infiltrate the Arcadia and then assassinate Harlock, thus forever eradicating the one man standing between the Coalition and their complete control of the Universe. English Mad Max in space with amazing CGI Animation. It is a very enjoyable movie, it has an interesting story, beautiful locations, solid action, interesting characters, and decent pace. More or less everything that should work in such a movie works here. Perhaps it lacks humor, and I would definitely add more action scenes, but still a very decent achievement. 8/10. ()

English So this is what you call a feast for your eyes? Okay. Yes, the animation was beautiful – I admired his ship in every scene. I was also surprised by Oguri Shun, I didn't expect him to be that good. Miura did pull my ears a bit in the beginning, but after that I got used to him. The music was fitting, likable, except that the ED made me feel a bit like being thrown into another world. But otherwise fine. What was weaker, though, was the story. It felt a bit like a hodgepodge, until it made me want to watch the original series, because I trust that it will make more sense there and won't make some scenes feel explicitly violent next to the others. Overall, though, I enjoyed it. A simple movie with great animation (just the way Harlock's appearance changed...). ()

English The animation is excellent, the soundtrack is great, the narrative is rather average, the characters are also average. On the whole, I liked it quite a lot, although there were a few moments that are better not to think about, and the whole romantic subplot of the two brothers and the one girl left me with a lot of questions, and somehow I could not get into it. Still, I am really quite satisfied, and the animation in particular really impressed me. 8/10. ()

English I’ve definitely seen a few Japanese animated films in my life, but Aramaki is simply miles ahead of his closest competition. His films, of course, have stunning visuals, but they can also boast a decent storyline. Captain Harlock is living proof of that. In terms of the graphical aspect, there’s nothing to criticize because it simply can’t get any better at this point. I’ve always been fascinated by how creators of such films provide the viewer with an incredibly visually appealing experience while also crafting interestingly designed worlds and everything surrounding them. Sci-fi animated films just have something special to them. The story here is certainly not pushed to the sidelines, and while it may not be a total knockout, it certainly doesn’t bring any shame to the film. I watched the film in the original Japanese language, but I didn’t mind at all. It was interesting to see a film in a different way than in English. The best aspects of the film were the wonderfully executed space battles, which were a feast for my eyes. There are certainly a few plot holes, but overall, it’s an above-average experience, and I give it 76%. ()

English The visuals are absolutely stunning. It must have been quite an experience to see this in the movie theater. However, it lasts for two hours, which is a bit too much considering the story isn't that interesting. It's quite nice how a 2D animated series from the 70s can visually transform into a beautiful 3D film that still retains its light-hearted space opera essence. ()
