Desperate for a child, Steven (Ryan Phillippe) and Shannon (Rachelle Lefevre) travel to Puerto Rico to adopt Haitian orphan Nina (Briana Roy), who they met through the organisation International Rescue Adoption run by Reigert (Jacki Weaver). But before the adoption can be finalised Nina mysteriously vanishes and the couple realise they have been the victims of an elaborate con. The case gets even more complex when dangerous criminals become aware of the secret dealings and they move in to capture a slice of proceedings, threatening the couple's lives in the process. I can't help but feel that, even though this is truly a dialogue disaster at times, John Cusack has been fitting quite well into similar roles lately. Part of it is his face, but it's also his acting. This is a very superficial film, but at least it highlights something that is actually happening. I'm not saying it's worth it, but there will definitely be some who find it intriguing.
