Plots(1)

Two thousand years ago, a mysterious legion of extremely fearsome warriors marched along the famous Silk Road. The soldiers were part of a Roman legion led by General Lucius (John Cusack), marching east to protect Publius, the youngest son of Consul Crassus, from his vicious brother Tiberius (Adrien Brody). After becoming lost in the desert they arrive at Wild Geese Gate, where Lucius meets Huo An (Jackie Chan), the Commander of the Silk Road Protection Squad of the Western Region. The two men - who have each been framed for treason - earn each other's respect and form an allegiance as Tiberius eventually arrives with his army, demanding Huo An hand over Lucius and Publius or witness his forces annex China. To protect his country and to clear his name of treason, Huo An gathers all the allies of China to unite together and take on Tiberius in an epic battle that will be remembered forever. English I didn't really want to watch this film, but in the end I'm pleasantly surprised. It suited me much more than the Korean historical blockbusters of last year. The film has unexpectedly good cast, with the great Jackie Chan, John Cusack, and the famed Adrien Brody, who is such an evil and stern leader that you wish him dead from the first second. There is plenty of action and it is very decent, with nice one-on-one fights that are decently choreographed, long, tasteful and quite gritty although blood is scarce. The finale is quite epic, with multiple nations coming together, and anyone who has played the PC game “Stronghold” will experience a pleasant warmth at the heart. For me great satisfaction, fun from beginning to end without any deaf spots. 80% ()

English It's pretty mediocre overall, but there are things in some films that you can enjoy. And in this case, it was the actors whose performance didn't bother me even though some characters were too simple and others too pathetic. It's exactly that blend of history, with just a little bit of action, and excellent actors that clicked with me. ()
