Logan Stuart (Dana Andrews) faces the challenges of business, a likeable but feckless gambling friend (Brian Donlevy) whose transgressions are leading him to the gallows, and two lovely women (Susan Hayward and Patricia Roc) fighting for the attention of the most eligible bachelor in town. Equally at home in this fast-paced story are the amiable Andy Devine and villain Ward Bond. To further enliven proceedings, meandering minstrel Hoagy Carmichael steals the odd scene with wry comments and lyrical melodies, including Oscar-nominated Ole Buttermilk Sky. (Panamint Cinema)
