Red Dragon (2002)

English Less interesting in terms of plot and more routine, and visually far less attractive, almost ordinary. Red Dragon has almost nothing to captivate the audience, other than a few scenes with Emily Watson and Ralph Fiennes. An overly detailed copy of The Silence of the Lambs, with the difference that there is hardly anything good in here, and there’s plenty of bad.

Sex and the City 2 (2010)

English A special paradox, a silly movie for smart people. Silly because it’s whiny, full of nonsense with a ton of makeup and at least two luxurious handbags on each hand, which have to be changed six times in an hour. On the other hand, it is an excellent satire of an idealistic life behind the golden curtain. A film exclusively for people who have at least a little success in life (especially career or financial) and can appreciate its subtleties and tricks, people who have a general overview of the world and know what is currently trendy and vice versa. As I see it, most of the geeks of FilmBooster are not that, because after watching twenty black and white movies a day, they don't have time to go to Pařížská Street for window shopping, or go on a trip to the UAE – after all, it's all superficial and bad.

Middle Men (2009)

English It's not bad, it's just relatively easy to overlook in the flood of modern-looking, attractively sounding films. Luke Wilson gives the best performance I've had the chance to see and possibly the best role he could have got, but the rest is nothing but solid craftsmanship and everything that belongs to the genre. Meaning a narrator that tells us how it all started plus some wisdom at the end, shiny cars, expensive suits, and a few babes on the dance floor. The inspiration from The Social Network is clearly visible, but it doesn't irritate the eyes.

The Eagle (2011)

English Centurion’s sibling, with a similarly low-budget, but noticeably better executed. Or rather, more atmospheric as the saying “better no blood than digital blood” was taken to heart by the people behind it. The end result is not excellent, but it doesn't disappoint. The cinematography and overall medieval feeling are much more well-crafted, and more believable thanks to the excellent music. The action is similarly confusing as in Centurion, but as already mentioned, it doesn't strive to be shocking at all costs. And even though the PG13 rating is incomprehensible and even stupid to me, it was solved relatively gracefully. The plot loses a bit of momentum in the second half when the main characters enter an enemy village, there’s more talking and less action, but fortunately, it can be endured. The cast is excellent, with a distinctly masculine character. Tatum is a solid “replacement” for Fassbender, which was unexpected.

Machete (2010)

English Crazy, wacky, and very stylish, as it’s usual with Robert Rodríguez. A film purely for die-hard fans, eternal optimists and junkies.

Limitless (2011)

English A smart and nicely psychedelic film with skilled cinematography and several excellent dialogue scenes, a few visual effects, and some high-quality finesse. It loses a bit of breath by the end, and I felt throughout that although the main character has an impressive vocabulary, he is extremely unlikeable, whether he is a loser or a superstar. De Niro is a Maybach is fine, in one of his typical roles, otherwise the topic is rather non-standard and attractive, with good ideas, but feels unfinished.

Unknown (2011)

English The final plot resolution is very interesting and not at all predictable. The action is scarce, but when it occurs, it has drive, and in fact, it is all somewhat “Bourne-like”, including the excellently utilized winter and freezing Berlin full of gray streets, dirt, homeless people, contrasted by luxury hotels, cars, and Arab sheikhs. Everything around the mysterious group of people is cold, raw, and uncompromising, while on the other hand, Liam Neeson is very down-to-earth and believable (as it’s his standard). They relied on a proven template from recent years, and they definitely did not spoil the result, which is a skillfully directed story with good performances. Bruno Ganz is monumental.

I Am Number Four (2011)

English Panoramas and work with light like Michael Bay, the action is also very good, the main characters are likeable, but conceptually it a B-movie through and through, fortunately without pretending to be anything else. Everything explodes as it should and nobody expects a different ending. Fortunately, it is dynamic and entertaining within its limits. I wasn't expecting a bigger hit, and I didn't get it. It is a solid action flick and I sincerely hope there won't be a sequel, It won’t offer anything at all.

Hereafter (2010)

English This film can be seen in various ways. It's not an exciting story with manipulative facts, as we often witness in films of a similar type, nor is it a gripping masterpiece that keeps us glued to the screen. I understand that this may deter many modern viewers, but if you look at the director’s name, you’ll find Clint Eastwood. As has been customary in recent years, he takes his time as a filmmaker, and this piece is carried in a very slow, suggestive atmosphere with very natural performances from the leading actors. The thrilling sequences in the first minutes and the incredibly stylised romantic scenes in the final part of the film are surprising; Eastwood is a profound melancholic and romantic, otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to precisely highlight the right details at the exact second so ingeniously. Unfortunately, my impression is spoiled by the middle part, which moves forward perhaps too slowly, but mainly lacks points of interest, which the progression of the storyline is quite unexciting. Excellent beginning and ending. Eastwood, however, still has the skills, and Cécile De France is apparently an absolutely captivating personality.

Drive Angry 3D (2011)

English The worst B movie crap of the year, with an incredibly rough and absolutely unbelievable Nicolas Cage (where are those Con Air times), terribly cheap and bad visual effects, poor editing, and an incomprehensible plot. The film is essentially about shit. I give one point for William Fichtner's solid acting, who really gives his all, and for the charmingly expressive Amber Heard, she outshines her much more famous partner, who has been struggling a lot in recent times.
