The Way of the Gun (2000)

English An average abduction thriller with fine acting and an excellent final shootout. Otherwise, nothing out of the ordinary. 60%

Dogtooth (2009)

English A very powerful film. It's a shame that the film didn't grab me until halfway through the second half, but I still had an uneasy feeling watching it. Although the film is not very audience-friendly, I can't say that I had a great time, it has a slower pace, perverse scenes, odd lines, unlikeable actors and their behaviour. But there were two scenes at the end made threw me off quite a bit: a very sick dance that almost made me take a pill, and then the dumbbell scene, which hurt even me. A strange, strange film, but it has something to it. 65%

Chimères (2013)

English I've had Chimères on my radar for a long time and more or less got what I expected. An admirable performance for the Swiss, also you have to take into account that Chimères is the only representative of the Vampire genre this year. The film has a slower pace, but it builds up decently towards the end and shows us some nice gore scenes (although they could have pushed the envelope more, the means were obviously there), anyway I'm glad to finally see something darker from the vampire genre, lately it's only been artsy introspective crap like Only Lovers Left Alive, Byzantium, and What We Do in the Shadows. What can we do, there probably won't be another 30 Days of Night. 65%

The Stranger (2014)

English It wasn't bad. The Stranger is a properly depressing, bleak and atmospheric little horror film, with an interesting infectious idea. The downside is the slower pace and not fully exploiting the potential of the infection, the blood is also very sparse, which is a shame because the film is shot decently even with decent make-up effects (the burns). I wasn't bored, but it is unfortunately nothing very noteworthy. 55%

Jurassic World (2015)

English Jurassic World made me about as happy as a child opening a Christmas present. Jurassic World is a brilliantly conceived blockbuster (beautiful attractions), I wish I could visit a similar park. The dinosaurs are palpably and vividly rendered and the intelligent Indominus Rex perhaps the biggest bad ass creature in film ever, its intelligence in particular was breathtaking to watch (camouflage, sensor obfuscation, GPS removal). Chris Pratt really is the new Harrison Ford, a proper hero and the role of Indiana Jones will suit him very well. I also praise the very solid pacing, the perfect finale that takes your breath away, the rather gnarly deaths for a PG-13 movie, and the great paced suspense with working empathy. Anyone who doesn't enjoy this film has no heart, can't have fun, and should give up movies for good. 100%

Spy (2015)

English The discovery of the Year. The best mix of comedy and action in the last decade with very solid acting. I haven't followed Melissa Mccarthy much, but here she proves she's really funny and a great actress. Jude Law is solid as always, Rose Byrne incredibly attractive but also a typical woman, and the absolute biggest surprise is Jason Statham, who steals the whole movie for himself, giving what is probably the performance of his life, completely different from the actor we know him to be (he has a tough guy lines, but he's really more of a doofus and everything comes off as beautifully ironic). I have to praise the action too, not only are the fights almost uncut, the camera rounds everything up nicely from a distance and there is no shortage of perfect choreography and decent moves like in wrestling, which looked admirable in Melissa's performance, the R-rating also adds a nice touch in places. So this is a very entertaining, stylish, polished and elegant spy comedy with lots of memorable scenes (the scene where Statham has a monologue explaining why he is the best agent in the world is the greatest rush of wordplay I have ever seen). Great stuff with unconventional and off-the-wall humor that will tickle the guts of even the introverts. 95%

American Gangster (2007)

English A solid and coherent gangster movie. Maybe not very attractive at first glance due to the long running time, but the trio of Ridley Scott, Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe is like clockwork and the entertainment was taken care of. Great story, sharp lines, killing, brutality, an interesting ending. I'm very satisfied. 80%

The Absent One (2014)

English Unnecessary prejudice. The Absent One is a typical quality Nordic film with both a good story and a solid atmosphere. The actors are likable, the pacing is pleasant, the story is engaging, there is a pleasing amount of unease and violence, and the climactic finale is the clear highlight of the film. 75%

Get Hard (2015)

English A pleasant comedy to entertain but without any higher ambitions. Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart are great, the gags are also decent, I laughed out loud a few times, but towards the end the film runs out of breath, so in the end only a strong three stars. Definitely one of the better flicks this year. 65%

We Are Still Here (2015)

English Welcome back to the 80s!! The film is really reminiscent of horror movies from the last century, not only in its retro look, but also in its characters. The actors are ordinary people, but very unlikeable (typical nerds) with nasty British accents, especially Larry Fessenden. I wasn't impressed by the atmosphere of the film, the first hour is a kind of introductory, chatty, without music, scares or suspense, so it doesn't make much of a positive impression. But I have to praise the last twenty minutes to the max, the director really did a decent job and gave us some nice gore scenes, which are in acute shortage this year and I welcome that with open arms. The unusual appearance of the demons is also a plus. So, despite the slower pace and obviously lower budget, an interesting genre film in the end. 60%
