Costa's first colour film is a distinctive authorial tribute to Jacques Tourneur's I Walked with a Zombie (1943). This story of a nurse and a seriously injured Cape Verdean worker who are leaving for his native island is yet another brilliantly made mysterious story about the archetypes of human existence and the insurmountable difference between the colonisers and the colonised.
