The Manor House (2014) (series)

English I have seen all episodes of the first season and I must express my opinion. I liked the series and the plot was average, but it was all like being on the wrong wavelength. The quality of individual episodes was very inconsistent and the more the series progressed toward the end, the more it lost in overall quality. In the last two episodes, there was as much happening as in the previous five episodes combined. I didn't like that, and the resolution of the plot and the twist were clear from the middle of the series (anyone who put two and two together must have figured it out immediately). I really liked the chosen era, costumes, and setting. The acting performances were also good - except for the child actors. Additionally, it annoyed me a lot that the whole series was wrapped in a "paranormal cloak." I really liked Veronika Arichteva's performance, as she entertained me throughout and seemed to be the best casting choice. If there is a continuation, I will most likely skip it.

Maleficent (2014)

English This movie was exactly what I was expecting, and maybe even a little better. This deserves a good four stars, but when you look at all aspects of it, including the excellent Angelina Jolie (I just love her voice), it comes up to a full set of five. Maleficent surprised me in terms of story; I had expected it to pan out a little differently, but that doesn’t matter. The special effects were absolutely amazing and very true-to-life; they certainly added a lot to this movie. And as for Maleficent herself (who you can’t help rooting for, especially with Angie behind the mask), she is magnificent on the screen, as I wrote earlier on.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)

English It isn’t very often that I love a sequel so much more than the first part. It fell only very slightly short of perfection; shame about the rather bodged ending, but even so I give this a full set. The atmosphere and special effects were A+ standard. Both the story and the arena are better than in part one, although I liked them both more or less the same, but the sequel really was a little bit better. 5*

Wonderful Times (2009) (series)

English I have seen all the episodes and the series is fantastic. I liked it from the beginning and the Czech creators really did a great job. The entertainment and drama of the past captivated me. I must admit that as the series approached the present, the charm faded slightly, but I still like it. For me, this is one of the best Czech series and I really liked it. 5 stars.

Stardust (2007)

English A very powerful movie. I enjoyed it and the acting performances were great - Michelle Pfeiffer was particularly fantastic. Stardust really is magical and I loved the movie world presented here. The only thing that spoiled the overall impression was the overly fairytale-style ending and, in my opinion, miserable special effects.

The Hunger Games (2012)

English I haven’t read the book, so it is hard to say how well this movie version does in comparison to it, but if I take this as just a movie, it worked exceptionally well! A really gripping adventure sci-fi that grabs on to you and doesn’t let go. I could certainly make some criticisms: this doesn’t deserve the top score, but still, years later, I am thrilled whenever I return to watch Hunger Games another time. I had great fun and was captivated from start to finish. Really an outstanding movie with a theme that I hadn’t come across ever before.

In a World... (2013)

English A relaxing and pleasant comedy that nobody can possibly take offense at. It didn’t make me laugh out loud, but I certainly wasn’t bored. Lake Bell is a beautiful woman who is really likeable on screen and she really does have a good voice.

The Skin I Live In (2011)

English A very spicy movie. It takes a while to warm up, a little boring even at first - lots time and little action. But then I began to get lost, but that was when I began finding my feet. It was chilling watching the moments with Robert turning Vincent into Vera and I began completely engrossed. This movie is a quality piece of work which I would categorize as psychological. It’s true that it’s a little rushed at the end, but that didn’t bother me as much as the dragged out beginning, which is the only reason I don’t give this a full set of stars.

Chicago (2002)

English I love movies set in "the olden days" and this movie is absolutely great and fascinating too! I found it really entertaining and the cast couldn’t have been better; the roles fitted each actor like a glove. And it was a pleasure to listen to the quality musical performances and the production design was a feast for the eyes. You just have to love Chicago; I haven’t ever seen a better musical on the silver screen.

CrissCross (1992)

English A gripping and enjoyable drama. The actors’ convincing performances make the movie believable and guarantees a feet-up movie that won’t get you going like a classic action movie, but certainly guarantees good watching material. Perhaps it’s a shame that such a good movie has been forgotten; not many people know of its existence (judging by the small number of reviews). I certainly recommend this; it fulfilled my expectations. And Goldie Hawn also proved that she isn’t just a comic actress, but is really in serious roles and has great talent for drama.
